Muslim Representation in Video Games: A Panel Discussion
1.1.2021
In collaboration with HOME Manchester we invited a series of speakers to review the cultural representation of Islam and the Muslim community within video games, exploring what extends beyond western-centric readings and tropes. What games are getting it right? Why are these representations and experiences meaningful, and for whom? Can we also learn from media forms outside of the games space such as comics, TV and film?
Guests Included:
- Shaf Choudry, co-founder of The Riz Test, a project to measure the portrayal of Muslims in Film and TV. With more to be announced.
- Dr Romana Ramzan, producer for No Code Studio the team behind BAFTA winning Observation and the critically acclaimed work Stories Untold.
- Anisa Sanusi, Video Games UI/UX Designer for Roll 7 and founder of Limit Break Mentorship.
- Umar Ditta, comic book author and writer for Closed Hands
